Westfield community centre drew the lucky tickets for its first Lottery Draw at the Wednesday Age concern on Wednesday 18th April draw. Dave Roberts officiated whilst Age concern members Stan Hedgecock, Eric Wincote, and Joan Cobb drew the tickets The First prize of £250 was won by A Nuttall, the second Prize of £100 by D Bennett and the third prize of £50 by V Prosser. Proceeds from the lottery go to funding the work of the centre and particularly its elderly and disabled groups.
Following the removal of all of its central grant of £140,000 p.a by the Leicestershire County Council the centre has embarked on a major fund raising initiative to ensure the centre continues it’s work.Westfieldcommunity centre has a 45 year history of providing for the whole community from nursery, pre-school, kids clubs, youth clubs, sports/ recreational clubs to formal and informal education groups and day care services for the frail elderly and disabled. A team of 30 committed staff, and over 100 volunteers a week help deliver services to the community.
Dave Roberts Head of Centre said the Lottery is a part of a larger fund raising/rescue plan implemented as a result of the cuts to the budget. The 3 year plan involves cutting opening hours, and some staffing, raising funds through the Lottery, through an on-line charity shop and appealing for funds and donations generally . The centre will shortly receive charitable status as part of it’s restructuring.
Dave Roberts said we are interested to hear from anyone who wants to buy or indeed sell Westfield lottery tickets anyone who has good quality re-saleable items to donate to our on-line charity shop ,or anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation to ensure this much needed centre continues to provide for the whole community.
