The Reverend David Jennings and Roger Crossley pick up the Reymes Cole Award as volunteer Chairperson and Secretary to the Community Association.
Every year at the AGM for the last 10 years an award is made to a volunteer at the centre who in the opinion of the Westfield Association during the previous 12 month has made a special voluntary contribution to the work of the Centre.
In awarding the Reymes-Cole Prize jointly to David and Roger as Chairperson and Secretary of the Association they have given decades of voluntary service to the Centre and Association. Dave Roberts said that both had steered the centre and Association through some very difficult and challenging years in their time. He thanked Roger for his support and work done on behalf of the Association during the move toward independence from The College, 12 years ago, during incorporation and more recently in gaining charitable status
He thanked David for his support both personally and professionally during some of the difficult periods the centre has faced. He said that in David the centre had had a staunch ally and friend and a great professional resource besides being a Canon in the church of England David was also an excellent community development professional. His contributions would be greatly missed by the Centre and the whole community. He wished them both well for the future.
In accepting the award David Thanked the Association and said it had been a privilege to work with the centre, but as he was retiring from the church he was also retiring from the very many community groups he was involved with as and when the occasions arose. David said that he saw no difference between his work as a priest and his ministry and the excellent community work of the centre. He wished the centre well for the future
Roger said that as he had moved to the South Coast, and had recently come out of retirement to take up full time employment consequently he felt he could no longer fulfil his commitment to the Association. He thanked Dave for his comments and said he was more than happy to offer on going support for the centre in any way that he can albeit by telephone or email.
