The Westfield Community Centre which first opened its’ doors in the late 1960’s celebrated its 50th birthday year with a special party. Nearly 100 guests enjoyed an evening of memories music and merriment.
Dave Roberts Head of Centre said the turn out was fantastic and included staff colleagues, volunteers and service users from each of the five decades the centre has been open. It was heart-warming to see that the role the community centre has played in local people’s lives for over half a century was much appreciated the lifelong community education curriculum which operates from the centre still includes Day nursery, preschool, kids club summer playschemes, work with young people, work with people with disabilities and support groups for older isolated people, as well as a range of recreational leisure, informal education, and volunteering opportunities.
The celebration was generously sponsored by three local real ale breweries the Market Bosworth Brewery, Hinckley’s own Elliswood Brewery and Buswells Brewery Burbage providing some of their finest ales for the evening and supported by Hinckley and Bosworth CAMRA members who ran a bar for the event.
The merriment was completed by a the multi-talented Ukele band the N’ukes who took the partygoers on a journey through over 50 years of popular music including ragtime, jazz, blues, rock and roll, pop, psychedelia, Soul, Motown, punk, rap, hip hop………. what they couldn’t do on a ukele hasn’t been invented yet !
Here is to the next half century.
